WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

Markus Kager
Studio Manager
Markus Kager is an environmental multimedia artist and curator of collections who serves as the Studio Manager of the Hung Liu Estate. He manages all aspects of the studio’s operations, overseeing logistics, documentation, and communication between the estate, galleries, and museums to support the care and distribution of Hung Liu’s work across institutions. This includes evaluating and documenting the condition of artworks, organizing shipments, and managing both in-house and off-site storage facilities.
Kager also maintains the estate’s internal database and public website, ensuring the accuracy and accessibility of information about the artist’s work. Central to his role is the development of the estate’s archive through the systematic organization, digitization, and cataloging of artworks, documents, and materials in preparation for long-term preservation at the Archives of American Art.
He manages consignment and sales documentation, issues certificates of authenticity, and monitors the secondary art market. He collaborates with a specialized New York law firm to register Hung Liu’s copyrights with the Library of Congress, protecting the artist’s intellectual property.
Kager holds an MFA in Studio Art from Mills College, where Hung Liu taught painting for 24 years—bringing both a personal connection to the artist’s work and a deep commitment to preserving her legacy.
